I graduated from Natchitoches High School, a school in the Natchitoches Parish School System. In Louisiana, counties are called parishes because of the influence of the Catholic Church in the state. I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Library Science Secondary Education from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in Natchitoches and a Master of Science in Library Science degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I have also taken courses in reading from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
I have been a library media specialist and third and fifth grade teacher in Louisiana, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Virginia, as well as in Alabama. I retired from public education in 2003. I am the webmaster for CrossBridge Church of Christ, Hannah Home Shelby Ladies' Auxiliary, and Fight 4Life Fitness and Boxing Ministry.
I am a member of two chapters of the Red Hat Society - The Southern Nut Cakes and the Scarlet Ladies. I am president of the Beta Lambda chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.

I am married to William C. (Bill) Buchanan, who retired as Director of Learning Resources at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham. We have one son, Charles Philip Buchanan, who is an editor in the Office of Periodicals and Publications at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Take a look at the Levy/Lieber family tree and the Charlie Dee Buchanan family tree.
